Understanding CPR / AED
Why it matters
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, and most cases happen outside a hospital. The American Heart Association's Chain of Survival starts with a bystander who recognizes the emergency, calls 911, and begins CPR before paramedics arrive. Early CPR paired with early defibrillation gives a person in cardiac arrest a meaningfully better chance of survival, which is the gap this course closes for workplaces, schools, and other organizations where a trained employee may be the first person on the scene.
What to expect
This is the AHA's Heartsaver CPR AED course, built for people without a healthcare background and requiring no prior certification. Your team practices on training manikins with an AHA Aligned Instructor, working through adult, child, and infant CPR, AED operation, and choking relief. Everyone who completes the course leaves with a Heartsaver CPR AED card valid for two years, a credential many Illinois employers require or recommend for designated safety staff.
